IPGSN People - Justin Gern
Justin is currently pursuing his BSEE degree from North Carolina
State University located in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.
He has completed three co-op rotations with General Electric Energy in Gre enville,
South Carolina. During his first two rotations, he worked in Wind Systems Engineering
where he worked to achieve electrical compliance for wind turbines manufactured,
shipped, installed, and commissioned in the United States and Canada. For his third
rotation, he worked in Reliability Systems Engineering, a group responsible for
reliability and safety across all of GE Energy's product line. Specifically, he
worked on SIL Safety Certification for the GE 9FB gas turbine.
Upon returning to campus, Justin has taken a role with the Semiconductor Power Electronics Center (SPEC). SPEC is established as a NCSU center of excellence with vertically
integrated research programs in research areas related to energy and power including:
1) Power Management Microsystems, 2) Utility Power Electronics, 3) Power Semiconductor
Devices and Power ICs, 4) Electric Power Systems, and 5) Renewable and Distributed
Energy.
Born in New Jersey, Justin has also lived and worked in Massachusetts, Ohio, South
Carolina, and North Carolina. He speaks and writes intermediate German and has traveled
to Europe twice. He graduated from St. John's Preparatory High School in Danvers,
Massachusetts in May 2003.
Justin enjoys combining the challenging technical aspects of engineering with his
passions for business and entrepreneurship to create practical solutions to better
the lives of others.
In his free time, Justin enjoys sports, current events, and computers.
Justin is a member of IEEE.
